The Oniru sweet spot
Oniru is the district squeezed between Victoria Island's eastern edge and Lekki Phase 1, running down to the Atlantic and Elegushi Beach. It has quietly become one of the best-value bases on the greater Lekki-VI axis: cheaper than VI proper, closer to the beach than Phase 1, and packed with mid-range hotels and serviced apartments.
It suits beach-first travellers, weekend visitors, and anyone splitting time between VI meetings and Lekki restaurants. It does not suit anyone wanting quiet on Friday and Saturday nights — Elegushi Beach and Muri Okunola Park pull crowds and noise until the early hours.
Prices and walkability
Mid-range hotels run ₦75,000-130,000. Serviced apartments in the Palace Road / Oniru estate area sit at ₦100,000-180,000. Boutique properties near the beach push ₦180,000-320,000. That is 20-30% below VI for similar quality.
Walkable: Elegushi Beach (5-15 minutes on foot depending on your street), Muri Okunola Park, dozens of restaurants and lounges (Cubana, Play, Buffalo Grill), several supermarkets. The Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge is 5-10 minutes by car; Phase 1's Admiralty Way is 10-15 minutes.

How safe is Oniru at night?
The main streets around New Market Road and Palace Road are busy and lit. The unlit stretches near the beach access roads are best done by Bolt after dark.
