Where to stay in Epe

The eastern end of the peninsula, a proper lagoon town with rooms from ₦15,000 and a fish market that starts before dawn.

Epe is not really Lekki anymore

Epe sits at the far eastern end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, roughly 60 kilometres from Phase 1. It is a genuine old lagoon town — pre-dating the entire Lekki development boom — with a famous fish market, boat access to Lagos Lagoon, and a growing university (Michael Otedola / UNILAG's satellite campus). It feels much more Yoruba-town than Lagos-suburb.

It suits day-trippers who decide to stay the night, university visitors, and travellers wanting to boat out to J-Randy's Resort or the Lekki lagoon islands. It does not suit anyone with plans in Lekki proper — the 90-120 minute drive each way rules it out as a base.

Prices and access

Small local hotels start at ₦12,000-25,000, mid-range guesthouses sit at ₦30,000-55,000, and a handful of newer resort-style properties on the lagoon reach ₦75,000-140,000. Genuinely cheap by peninsula standards.

Walkable: the fish market (arrive by 6am), the palace of the Oloja of Epe, the lagoon waterfront, several local eateries. Boat charters to nearby islands leave from the waterfront. There is no mall, no cinema, and Bolt supply is thin — negotiate with local taxis or use okadas for short hops.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is Epe worth an overnight?

If you want fresh lagoon fish for breakfast and a boat trip the next morning, yes. Otherwise it's a day trip.

How long is the drive from Phase 1?

90-120 minutes off-peak, up to three hours in Monday rush hour.

Doing good is the business: every booking through Stay Lekki funds one verified tonne of carbon removal — same room, same price, no markup.
